Carley Button delivered a breakthrough performance for the Southeastern Oklahoma State University women’s golf team this week, carding an even-par 71 to set a new team scoring record and highlight her continued rise within the Savage Storm lineup.
Button’s milestone came in a round that was anything but smooth early on. After an unsteady start, she rebounded with composure stringing together one of the strongest finishes of her collegiate career.
“It was very satisfying to finally break that barrier,” Button said. “It showed me that my hard work is starting to pay off and I need to keep trusting my game and my process. I had a rough start to that round, so it was fulfilling to bounce back from that.”
Button, who has steadily climbed Southeastern’s lineup over the past two years, emphasized that the achievement reflects not just a single good day, but months of steady improvement.
“I’m glad that I was able to push myself to break my own record,” she said. “I’m hoping to keep the trend going and break it more throughout this season.”
With several major tournaments ahead, Button hopes her latest performance marks the start of an upward trend for both herself and the team.
