Southeastern baseball has opened its 2014 season with a 9-5 overall record and a 4-2 record in the Great American Conference.
Southeastern moved to nine wins when they defeated Oklahoma Christian University Feb. 25 in a two-game-series.
Following the doubleheader the Savage Storm travels to Searcy, Ark. where they will face Harding University for three-game-series Feb. 28 and March 1.
The two conference loses came off a road trip to Arkadelphia, Ark. when they faced Henderson State University Feb. 15.
With the weather not cooperating, the Savage Storm have been unable to practice outside, making the offense work harder than usual said coach Mike Metheny.
“I think that our main problem is our offense,” said Metheny.
“If we were scoring a lot of runs that would help the pitchers.”
Leading the offense with a .348 batting average is psychology major Chance Burcham. With a homerun and five RBIs,
Burcham is off to a good start according to Metheny.
Also helping the team offensively is Cade Clay, a freshman secondary education major.
Currently, occupational safety and health major Mason Crenshaw and special education major Nick Johnson have the lowest ERA for Savage Storm pitchers.
“Our pitching is actually doing real good,” said Metheny. “They have an ERA of 3.25, which is pretty good.”
The Savage Storm will be traveling to Searcy, Ark. to face Harding University for a three-game-series Feb. 28 and March 1.
The three games will be the next in conference play for Southeastern.
