Bailee Weger turned in her second-best 5K time of the year, and it was enough to earn her a meet championship as she paced Southeastern to its second meet victory of the season at the Northwestern Louisiana Demon Invitational in Natchitoches, La. on Oct. 12.
Weger posted a 20:10.6 to win the meet, her first win at the collegiate level, while all five Savage Storm runners finished in the top 10.
Weger’s individual win is the frst in program history and earned her Great American Conference Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week honors.
SE finished with 27 points, while Northwood finished second with 74. A total of eight teams and 50 runners participated in the meet.
Weger was pushed on the run by team mate Haylee Story who did post her best 5K time with a 20:12.9 to finish second.
Shelby Fraser continued her phenomenal improvement on the season, shattering her best time of the year with a 20:57.6 to finish sixth.
Tracie Lee came in two spots behind her in eighth with a time of 21:07.8 which is her best time since returning to the lineup in just her third meet.
Kayle Reaves rounded out the SE finishers with a 21:31.1 to finish 10th.
The victory is the second of the season after the Storm turned in a first-place finish in their last trip to Louisiana, winning the La Tech Mook 5 Invitational on Sept. 21.
Southeastern will now look to carry this momentum into the Great American Conference Championship meet on Oct. 26 in Russellville, Ark.
