Theatre at Southeastern did not disappoint with its production of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol,” which ran Nov. 15-17.
SE’s “A Christmas Carol” stayed close to the original story of the grumpy old Ebenezer Scrooge who is visited by the spirit of his former business partner Jacob Marley and the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet To Come. The spirits show Scrooge the real meaning of Christmas by showing him how his life has been, is and could end up.
The SE production featured some of the most elaborate and detailed set work that I have ever seen on the SE stage.
The stage looked like something straight from a movie set.
Even though the set was amazing, the most impressive part of the show was the acting.
The talent of Theatre at Southeastern has improved so much in the past few years. Everyone from the supporting actors to the main characters impressed me.
However, what would a production of “A Christmas Carol” be with out the perfect Scrooge?
Dustin Curry portrayed an excellent Ebenezer Scrooge. Curry mastered everything from the accent to the mannerisms of the sour Mr. Scrooge.
The cast also featured Kevin Anastasio, Courtney Baker, Jessica Black, Bonnie Boone, Riley Collard, Brianne Cothran, Joel Dameron, Rebecca Ford, Nick Growall, Sheridan Hill, Sarah Hodson, Domanick Hubbard, Brittany Lopez, Megan Mackey, Landry Miller, Kylie Page, Trent Pratt, Minda Rocha, Tanner Risner, Ashleigh Self, Patrick Southerland and Rebecca Sparks.
Overall, this is one of the best productions that I have seen at SE. Everything from the set to the acting was on point.
The next Theatre at Southeastern productions will be a return of the cabaret troupe “Four Guys Named Al” in a holiday production “‘Al’ Be Home for Christmas” on Dec. 14, followed by “Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” Feb. 21-23.
