Nick Growall complaining about his bill price for the summer semester compared to the fall or spring semesters.
Every summer, students get the option to go on break or enroll in classes. As with most things in life, there are pros and cons to attending summer classes.
Do the pros out-weigh the cons? The answer depends on personal choices.
If you choose to take a break, you have a less stressful summer, theoretically. But if you picked classes, you get the credits the people who are vacationing do not receive.
Attending summer classes this year has really started to infuriate me. I chose to attend classes for two reasons.
The first reason is that with these six credits, I will be able to graduate in a year instead of a year and a half. The second is that my OHLAP runs out in December. Therefore, I wish to save myself from paying for two classes.
I took fewer classes in the summer in hopes of doing well in them grade-wise. I did not want to overload myself with classes that would be more difficult.
By difficult, I do not mean that the work could be any harder than it would have been if I waited until a regular semester.
I just mean that with the short amount of time instructors have to get all of the information taught, there are more homework, reading assignments and expectations for students.
All of those things make it more difficult for students. While it is not impossible, it is just harder.
Despite having fewer classes this summer, I am starting to feel overwhelmed.
Students can usually notice when teachers get stressed. With summer classes containing a smaller amount of time to teach, instructors seem to get more stressed.
Students can relate to instructors.
When I start noticing instructors becoming stressed, I start feeling stressed as well. The stress I feel can affect my grades through homework grades.
Like all college students, I need good grades in classes to keep my GPA up. With high amounts of stress, my grades tend to slip. The slip causes my GPA to go down as well as my mood.
Therefore, I do not like summer classes.
While I love the three-day weekends, I find that I do not enjoy summer classes. For me, the pros do not outweigh the cons. I do not plan on enrolling in any more summer classes.
