For two years Hot Shots Coffee has had collaboration with Southeastern Oklahoma State University art students.
According to Shauna Weaver, owner of Hot Shots Coffee, they change out paintings displayed by one or two artists every eight weeks with those of another artist from the school.
As a former student herself at SE, Weaver came to Ousey with the idea of displaying students’ work in the coffee shop as a way to help the students, while keeping the decoration in the location fresh.
Weaver said she allows the students to sell their art in her shop free of commission or charge.
At the end of the eight-week showcase Associate Professor of the Arts Jack Ousey comes to Weaver with the portfolio of a new student he has chosen to showcase at the coffee shop next.
The two art students currently displayed in the shop are those of Jessica Spearman with four art pieces and Heather Taylor with five art pieces.
Spearman said, “This is a good opportunity for people to see my work and for me to sell my work.”
According to Spearman, one day during the showcase the artists have a reception where they come to Hot Shots to explain their pieces to those that are curious.
Spearman said, these receptions are usually done at the time of a studio class in order for other art students to come and support their classmates.
Studio classes meet on Tuesday and Thursday in the afternoons, according to Spearman.
