The Student Government Association recently welcomed six new senators and a secretary, according to Nickolas Mcbrayer, vice president of SGA.
The new members were elected via an electronic vote on Blackboard that was open from 8 a.m. on Sept 4 to 3 p.m. on Sept. 5. In total 140 students voted for the senator candidates and secretary candidate.
The candidates needed 40 percent of the votes to be elected and students were allowed to vote for as many of the candidates as they wished.
All six senator candidates who ran were elected, as well as the secretary candidate. Danielle Julian, a junior communication major, was elected as secretary with 87.9 percent of the votes. . Amanda Scott, a senior psychology major, received 66.2 percent.
Aubrey Tarantine, a senior communication major, received 52.9 percent. Roberto Guardian-Ibarra, and Kayleb Koslowsky, both junior chemistry and biology double majors, received 48.5 percent of the votes.
Brook Taylor, a sophomore criminal justice major, was elected with 42.9 percent of the votes. Tommy Williamson, a junior criminal justice major, received 39. 7 percent. According to Mcbrayer, SGA decided to round up Williamson’s percentage because it was so close to 40 percent.
This election brought the total number of senators to 11, according to Mcbrayer. SGA holds their meetings every Thursday at 6 p.m. on the third floor of the student union in the Frost Chambers. All members of the student body are welcomed to attend. According to Mcbrayer, SGA is a hard job but also a rewarding one. Mcbrayer said, “If you want to make a difference at Southeastern this is where you want to be.”
