Sometimes college can be stressful and students might struggle with self-confidence or other problems. But for SE students, the Southeastern Counseling Center is here to help.
The Counseling Center is located on the second floor of the Student Union, suite 200, and provides services to all current students enrolled at Southeastern free of charge.
The Counseling Center can provide help with such problems as distressing emotional issues, low self-confidence, eating concerns and self-defeating behaviors.
Students can also come to the Counseling Center to talk about their relationship issues or substance use issues.
Southeastern students have the option to choose between individual counseling and group counseling. A lot of students choose to meet with a counselor on a one-to-one basis and talk about their problems or concerns.
The counselor listens carefully and provides feedback.
Other students choose to join group counseling where they can discuss general concerns or self-defeating behaviors.
This semester, the Counseling Center will offer three groups.
The anxiety/stress management group will meet Mondays from 2-4 p.m. Group members will learn positive ways to cope with stress/anxiety through talk therapy, relaxation techniques and group support.
The general women’s group, which is a female-only group, meets Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon.
The Overcoming Depression Group, in which members will learn ways to decrease depression using several therapy modalities, meets Thursdays from 2-4 p.m.
“Group members will learn ways to decrease depression through using several therapy modalities,” said clinical counselor Debra Fulenchek.
The counseling center also offers assistance for couples and involves both partners’ full participation.
