The 2012 retreat for freshmen in the Honors Program was a success in multiple ways.
With the President’s Leadership Class freshmen joining Honors at Cross Point Camp in Kingston, Oklahoma, on Aug. 24 and 25, a new retreat experience was shared.
Having previously held retreats at Cross Point on separate weekends, the two groups of Southeastern freshmen, their directors and their upperclassmen peers combined efforts to bring the groups together at certain points throughout the retreat and encourage more connection than there has previously been.
“I liked having PLC and Honors together. It’s fun to get to know the PLC students as well as the Honors students and for them to get to know each other,” said Honors Program Director Lisa Coleman.
The retreat, which for Honors focused on the theme of pushing oneself past plateaus and toward greatness, included many community bonding and personal growth opportunities for each student and the group as a whole.
“It’s good to interact outside the classroom,” said Director of Student Health Services Nurse April Lehrling, who went on the retreat to ensure safety of all attendees.
About his experience with the students on the retreat, Associate Dean of Academic Services Tim Boatmun said, “There’s nothing better than to laugh and play with fun people, and these students are just fun.”
