Homecoming king/queen and Big Man on Campus entry forms are due in the SGA office by noon on Sept. 14, homecoming committee co-chairs Joseph Badan and April Zimmerman said. Team rosters, homecoming entry forms and sweepstakes entry forms are due in the SGA office by 5 p.m. Sept. 14.
The SGA office is in room 316 on the third floor of the student union.
This year’s homecoming theme is “The Fantastic Gold and Blue” and events will be centered on a super hero motif, according to Badan and Zimmerman who along with the other committee members have been planning homecoming since summer. Homecoming will be held the week of Sept. 24, 2012.
This year’s events will include “A Day in the Life of Peter Parker,” a scavenger hunt where participants will search the campus and take photos of different super heroes; “Starks Tower of Power,” a quiz bowl game focusing on super hero trivia; “Create a Hero,” where participants compete in a race to come up with a story about a super hero; and a street dance sponsored by SE alumni, according to Badan and Zimmerman.
Teams participating in events of homecoming will receive sweepstakes points based on attendance, Badan and Zimmerman said. The team with the most points at the end of the week will receive the sweepstakes award. All members present at an event must sign in. A Southeastern student I.D. is required to participate in all homecoming events.
The requirements of forming a homecoming team, according to Badan and Zimmerman, include having a minimum of seven members, entering a float for the parade and being officially recognized as an organization by the SGA.
Zimmerman said that homecoming is a good way for students to interact with each other and that since it’s all free, students should take advantage of it. Badan’s said, “It’s a great point of pride for the university, and student involvement is what really makes it great … it’s just a whole lot of fun, so come out and do it!”
Homecoming co-chair Joseph Badan works in the SGA office finishing up some last-minute details of homecoming events.
