Jana Kramer’s debut album was officially released on June 5. The CD was a great buy due to the lower album cost than other new CDs for a fun list of songs.
Most people who have heard of Kramer have either heard her single “Why Ya Wanna” on the country radio stations or saw her perform and act in “One Tree Hill.”
When I first saw that I could pre-order Kramer’s CD, I was excited. However, that excitement left as I saw that pre-ordering the album would cost $15 not including the shipping or tax.
College students tend to stay broke. Therefore, we must spend our money wisely. I feel Kramer’s CD was worth buying.
In order to save money, I bought my copy at Walmart for $10. The price is less than I expected to pay for a new CD.
While comparing prices on walmart.com, I found that Kramer’s CD was a few dollars less than Carrie Underwood’s newest album “Blown Away” and contained a 60 page magazine to learn more about Kramer.
While reading through the magazine, the most interesting detail about Kramer I found is that she bought Loretta Lynn’s (“Coal Miner’s Daughter”) horse named Hank. Kramer kept Lynn’s branding symbol on Hank after purchasing him. The symbol is two L’s joined together.
As for Kramer’s songs, there were only two of the 11 that I did not enjoy.
Those two tracks were slower than the others which is the main reason I did not like them.
All of the other songs on the album are more upbeat which makes them more catchy to listeners.
The songs I did not like are titled “Over You By Now” and “Good As You Were Bad.”
“Over You By Now” and “Good As You Were Bad” are about breakups.
“Over You By Now” starts with Kramer asking where she was when a boy decided he was through with her.
Kramer goes on to say she would have been over him already if she knew what he was thinking.
“Good As You Were Bad” is about Kramer having an inner war with herself over a boy. She loves him, but she hates him. She wants to forget him but says he did just as many good things to her as he did bad.
As for the songs I enjoy, I love three songs titled “I Hope It Rains,” “Whiskey” and “What I Love About Your Love” most.
“I Hope It Rains” is a spiteful song that shows how humans think. In it, Kramer is talking to a guy that told her he needs space. Five nights later, she sees him out with another girl.
The rest of the song is Kramer telling the guy that she hopes he gets what is coming to him.
Most humans would think thoughts similar to Kramer’s if they were told to give the person they love space and saw them out with someone else.
Humans tend to think negative thoughts when in pain instead of letting it go. It tends to take time for us to forgive people or to let a painful experience go. Therefore, most people can relate to this song.
As for “Whiskey,” Kramer sings about a boy she fell for but is no longer with.
She spends the song saying how she should have run away from him the moment she met him to avoid the “burning, the stinging, the high, and the heat and the ‘left-me-wanting-more’ feeling” that both the boy and whiskey give her.
“What I Love About Your Love” is a song describing the way someone’s love makes her feel.
It is a very upbeat song with a country accent that makes it comical for me to listen to. However, both of those things make me love the song. It gets stuck in my head, and I find myself singing it throughout the day.
A song that describes how every girl has felt at one point or another is “One of the Boys.”
Kramer tells her listeners how she gets tired of makeup and high heels. She looks at the way boys act and decides to become “one of the boys.”
“King of Apology” is about a boy who apologizes way too much. She tells him that she “won’t be the queen to the King of Apology” anymore.
She tells about a time he apologized for being late for supper. She goes on to imply he tells her that a lot, and she is tired of his over-apologetic personality.
It is an upbeat song that still gets her point across.
In “Goodbye California,” Kramer is saying goodbye to all her life in California to go home. She is happy to be with the man she loves and to be in the country.
“When You’re Lonely” was not a song I liked the first few times I heard it. However, I like it now because the meaning behind the song describes my life.
The song talks about her getting a call early in the morning from a boy who is lonely and missing her. In the song, Kramer talks about how he only cares about her when he is lonely. She tells him it is too late because he cannot have her now.
Any person who enjoys having fun would probably enjoy “Good Time Comin’ On.”
It seems to be describing the stereotypical high school or college party-going student. She sings about loving a song, liking a boy and sneaking away from her friends in this song.
Overall, I loved Kramer’s debut album. I loved her spunk, energy and attitude that are shown in this CD.
