Southeastern’s School of Arts and Sciences will bring together music, theater and academics in the second annual Brainstorm Research, Scholarship and Creative Activities Week, beginning on Monday, April 16, and ending on Saturday, April 21.
Dr. Jeri Walker, Donna Massey Professor in Music Education, is organizing this year’s research week.
“There are many activities planned. Visitors can expect to hear lectures, demonstrations, musical performances, mixed-media events, view research poster presentations, among other things,” Walker said.
Students and faculty alike are invited to attend musical performances, theatre presentations and faculty lectures that will serve to enrich and promote both the artistic and academic communities on campus.
The event is open to the public, and anyone within the School of Arts and Sciences at SE is welcome to be involved as a presenter.
“Researchers will have a platform from which to discuss their work and disseminate the information throughout the campus and community,” Walker said.
Walker said that this year’s BrainStorm is attracting a larger number of presenters from all areas of research compared to last year, indicating that interest in the event has grown quite a bit.
The research presentations will vary widely, including presentations of educational research, scientific and mathematical research and travel, to name a few.
Additionally, Southeastern will be host to three special guest artists in residence: Craig Hella Johnson, Joel Puckett and Carter Pann.
Johnson is an internationally renowned choral conductor, composer and arranger. Puckett and Pann are both award winning composers.
