There were 285 high school students, along with 45 parents or school personnel who participated in SE Live on Nov. 9. It was also Native American Visitation Day.
SE Live is an opportunity to show high school students what is like to be an SE student.
Susan Hodson, recruitment specialist, said this is just a “taste of campus life” for high school students.
Students enjoyed campus tours, small group activities, free lunch and performances by the Sparks Dance Team and The Spirit of Southeastern marching band.
The True Blue Ambassadors helped with the program all day, said Taylor Donaldson, an SE True Blue Ambassador.
The True Blue Ambassadors are comprised of students who represent SE at recruitment and alumni events.
They helped with setting up the event and registering students as they arrived, said Donaldson, we also “gave the campus tours and led the small groups.”
The small groups consisted of activities in the student union gym, a money matters seminar and attending a College Success class, according to the agenda made for the day.
During the lunch on the front lawn, sponsored by First United Bank, the Ambassadors talked to students and answered any questions the high school students had.
After this, students got to choose what they wanted to do next.
They could pick from a campus tour, chorale open house, SE band open house, prospective student athletes, aviation program open house and Native American games.
This day also gave Native American students an opportunity to learn about ways tribes will help with their future, including assistance with textbooks and financial aid.
For a little fun, the traditional game of stickball was played. Students could also sit in on a Native American studies class.
After SE Live was dismissed, students could audition for the chorale and band.
The Admissions and Financial Aid offices were open all day to answer any questions students or parents have.
At the end of the day, the True Blue Ambassadors helped clean up after all the students went home, according to Hodson.
The Recruitment Office will host another SE Live during the spring semester on Feb. 8.
