Southeastern Homecoming Week will be next week – Sept. 18-23, 2023. The Office of Student Life, as well as university sponsors, are hosting event campus wide for students and the community.
Homecoming Week events will kick off on Monday with the “Lunch on the Lawn.” Free lunches will be offered to students and faculty.
The volleyball team will be hosting “Donuts and Dugs” on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Atrium and will have free donuts for current students.
Jayda Janway, president of the Native American Student Association at Southeastern, mentioned her excitement to attend this event.
“The events that I will be attending are Donuts and Digs for SE Volleyball – Who doesn’t like donuts? – and also the block party and tailgate!
“All of these events give me a chance to meet new students and spend valuable time on campus. Homecoming Week is something I look forward to attending every year.”
On Tuesday at 6 p.m. Simmons Bank will be sponsoring the volleyball tailgate. The volleyball team will take on Southern Nazarene University’ Crimson Storm, which are currently 9-3 on the season.
On Wednesday, the Office of Student Life is putting on a lip sync battle, which will be located in the Fine Arts Building.
The Office of Student Life is also hosting a Block Party on Thursday, starting a 7 p.m. This event will be located at the top of the loop on campus.
David Penn, Director of Student Engagement, said he is hoping for a strong turnout this week.
“Homecoming events play a significant role in fostering a sense of community, inclusion and belonging among students,” Penn said. “They offer an opportunity for students to connect with their peers, alumni and the broader campus community.
“Furthermore, participating in homecoming activities can be a fun and memorable experience that enhances the overall college experience. This concept aligns with Dr. Vincent Tinto’s research, which highlights how students who engage are more likely to persist to completion with regard to graduation.”
The True Blue Rally will be located at the amphitheater and is open to all on Friday, Sept. 22.
These events are leading up to the Homecoming football game on Saturday, Sept. 23, against NWOSU. Tailgate will begin at 3 p.m. and continue until kickoff at 6 p.m.
If you are anxious to attend any of the upcoming events, Penn has some tips for you.
“Start small and begin by attending smaller events or activities that align with your interest,” Penn said. “Invite a friend or classmate to join you at the event. Having a familiar face by your side can provide comfort and make the experience more enjoyable. Engage in conversation and strike up conversations with fellow attendees.
“Remember that many people at these events are looking to make connections, just like you. Don’t hesitate to introduce yourself and ask questions.”
