Southeastern Oklahoma State University welcomes two new members to the Native American Student Association officer team. As the Native American Student Association (NASA) expands, it has become essential that each officer position is filled.
Southeastern NASA, the biggest organization on their campus, is thrilled to announce the election of Angelica Ramirez as the new Treasurer, effective September 13.
Ramirez is a second-year Southeastern student that is a member of Women Empowered, employee of Choctaw Nation Freshman Year Initiative, and second year NASA member.
“I am beyond excited and happy for this opportunity to be the Native American Student Association Treasurer,” Ramirez said.
“In this role, I will get to experience all of the opportunities presented from the leadership side, which is very valuable to me. I will get to see all of the opportunities to get involved come available for NASA members and myself and get to pitch in too. I believe that this semester will have NASA absolutely thriving. All of us will get to see growth, networking, and improvement right before our eyes.”
Additionally, Southeastern NASA members elected Shandra Jones as the Social Media Technician for the organization.
Jones is a fourth-year Southeastern student, majoring in pre-med. Jones has been an active member of NASA for two years now, and she says she is looking forward to spending her last year contributing to NASA.
“I am so glad to be elected as the new Social Media Tech,” Jones said. “As a transfer student, I was not able to spend as much time in on-campus activities as I wish I could have, because I didn’t know anyone, and now I couldn’t imagine not being in NASA for my last year.
“Many of friends are in this group, and it feels great to be able to play a role in how we present NASA on our socials. I want to showcase NASA the best that I can so more members can join and have an experience like mine.”
With the growth rate of 380% from last fall, NASA’s membership has reached the largest group that the Native American Institute at Southeastern has on record.
