Deer season is around the corner and weekend warriors as well as seasoned veterans make plans to enter the woods. This season if you are out in the woods make sure you understand the regulations for the seasons and stay on land where you have permission to hunt.

Deer and turkey are among the most popular game animals in Oklahoma during the fall. A hunter needs to be aware of different season dates and bag limits to avoid facing fines.

The Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation sets season dates. Deer archery begins Oct. 1, 2017 and ends Jan. 15, 2018. Primitive arms or “muzzleloading” runs from Oct. 28 to Nov. 5, 2017. Deer gun season begins Nov. 18, 2017 and ends Dec. 3, 2017. Finally holiday antlerless begins Dec. 22, 2017 and ends Dec. 31, 2017.

According to Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation the bag limit is six deer total during the season with two being antlered. In order to consider a deer antlered it must contain at least three inches of antler length above the hairline.

According to the Wildlife Department turkey fall archery begins Oct. 1, 2017 and ends Jan. 15, 2018. Turkey fall gun season begins Nov. 4, 2017 and ends Nov. 17, 2017. The bag limit for turkey is one, however there are specific rules in regards to the turkey’s sex in each county.
