Under Oklahoma state question 773, Oklahomans are trying to legalize medical marijuana including recreational and industrial use. Medical Marijuana use in the state of Oklahoma now means that only people with certain medical conditions, supervised by their healthcare provider, can use medical marijuana to treat their symptoms.

Oklahomans, like many other states, understand the revenue of tax money created by the circulation of marijuana dispensaries. This may be a better way to fund education in Oklahoma and other states. Colorado, one of the first states to legalize marijuana, ended up raising so much money from taxed marijuana sales they had to give more back in tax returns to state citizens. The medical and recreational marijuana is worth over 5 billion dollars.

“The crime rate would drop exponentially just like it has in Colorado since its legalization” said Jody Jobe, who is for the legalization of marijuana in the OK community. “The tax revenue raised by marijuana would go to schools, the community and infrastructure, the things that the cities really need most”, Jobe said. Lisa Branch, an Oklahoman whose daughter suffers from many seizures, said “I think that we as a country rely too much on man-made chemicals (i.e. prescription drugs).” “We need to go back to using herbal medicines just like our ancestors did, that way people like my daughter would not have to take all the medicine they do” said Branch.

While some support the legalization of medical marijuana others have a different point of view. “I don’t think it is necessarily good for people to use it because it can bring negativity to loved ones lives”, said Oklahoma resident Angella McLeod. “If people were to use it for medical purposes I would not judge them for what they have to do”, said McLeod.
