Campus police, Southeastern staff and faculty work hard at making the campus safe for its students, however it is impossible to prevent all emer- gencies. There are three big features that Southeastern has to help students prevent and deal with emergency situ- ations: Police Call Boxes, SE Alert and Tornado Sirens and Shelters.
Police Call Boxes are placed strate- gically throughout the campus. If a student feels unsafe, or if there is an emergency, they can activate the call box. The activation sends an instant alert to campus police, advising them of the location and that immediate assistance is needed.
Another type of emergency alert system on campus is SE Alert. SE Alert sends a call, text, and/or email to students, staff and faculty when there is an emergency that they need to be aware of. It is important that students keep their information up to date and accurate so that they will be able to receive the alerts.
Each semester students, staff and faculty will receive an email with detailed instructions on how to revise their contact information. If a person wishes to change their information before the next email is received, they should to go to http://homepages. se.edu/sealert/ and follow the instruc- tions listed on the page.
Tornadoes are no rare occurrence in this part of the United States, the cam- pus is equipped with two features to protect its students, staff, and faculty.
First, the campus is equipped with civil defense siren, also called a tor- nado siren, that sounds throughout campus when the threat of a tornado is imminent.
Second, upon hearing the siren, students staff and faculty, should report to the nearest tornado shelter, which can be found in serval places around campus.
For a more detailed dessription on what to do during a tornado, students can check the website at http:// homepages.se.edu/public-safety/ emergency-handbook/tornado/.
If students have any questions, com- ments, or concerns regarding their safety, or the safety of others, they are encouraged to contact campus po- lice at (580) 745-2727 or check out the website at http://homepages.se.edu/ public-safety/.
