The SE volleyball team will be playing rival ECU tonight at 7 p.m. in Bloomer Sullivan Gymnasium. This will be the first home game of Great American Conference play.
The Storm lost against Southern Nazarene University 1-3 on Sept. 17 but came back with a 3-1 win against Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Sept. 21.
The team currently has a record of 6-4 overall and a 1-1 conference record.
Prior to beginning conference play, SE hosted the South Central Classic Sept. 13 and 14 in Bloomer Sullivan Arena. The Storm ended the South Central Classic with a loss against the University of Central Oklahoma on Sept. 14.
Despite early leads in the third and fourth sets of the UCO game, SE lost the final match of the classic, leaving them with a 3-1 record for the tournament. The Storm had more kills than UCO, 54 to 49, but also had five more errors.
The Storm started the classic strong on Friday afternoon with a 3-0 win over Mid-America Christian University.
Emily Gentle, a junior recreation major, completed the game with 15 kills, and Megan Kunkel, a sophomore undecided major, ended the game with 12.
In all, the Storm had 53 kills and 13 errors on 114 attempts.
The Storm swept the first day of the classic when they beat Cameron University 3-0 Friday night. Taylor Benner, a senior marketing major, led the defense with a season-high 25 digs. Benner’s performance is tied for fourth place in SE history for the number of digs in a three-set match.
The Storm continued their winning streak Saturday with a 3-2 win over Maryville. Caitlyn Mills, a freshman occupational safety and health major, helped on seven of SE’s 10 blocks while Gentle assisted with five.
