From Staff Reports
The Southeastern men’s and women’s tennis teams will open the 2013 season on the road Sept. 6-7 at the OKC Collegiate Invitational in Oklahoma City.
The following weekend, the teams will travel to Wichita Falls, Texas for the Midwestern State Open Sept. 13-14.
The Savage Storm will open home play when the teams host Oklahoma Baptist University Sept. 16 at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
However, the teams will have a home event Sept. 10 when Southeastern tennis will bring back the “Rock The Courts Pro-Am Tournament”. In the tournament, Southeastern players will pair with local members of the community for doubles tennis action at the Southeastern Tennis Complex.
The fundraiser is slated for a 6 p.m. start time and is open to the public.
“We want to invite everyone out to support the program,” said men’s tennis coach Shawn Hamil. “The event last year was great and the community support was outstanding. We are expecting year two to be just as good or better.”
The tournament will consist of 16 players divided into doubles teams made up of one Savage Storm tennis player and one community member.
“One of the things we really wanted to accomplish was to reach out to the community and promote the sport of tennis in Durant and around the area,” said Hamil. Last year’s event raised more than $1,000 for the tennis programs at Southeastern.
