Durant Main Street to host Mardi Gras celebration

Mardi Gras on Main will include a variety of themed activities and live music.

The Durant Main Street organization will be hosting Mardi Gras on Main on Saturday, Feb. 27 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. This event will include a wide variety of festive activities.

A Mardi Gras King and Queen contest will be begin at 2 p.m. The winners will ride in the Golf Cart Parade. The parade will take place from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. in the Magnolia Mile Art Alley.

DIY masquerade masks will be available to craft at the Durant Mercantile.

Local bars will be selling Hurricanes, a drink popular in New Orleans during traditional Mardi Gras events. Jazz music, Cajun food and King cakes will also be available.

Many local businesses will be open and running special deals throughout the day.

This event was originally scheduled for Feb. 13, however, due to severe weather conditions, Durant Main Street and local businesses decided it was in the best interest of everyone to move the date.
