Dorm drab to dorm fab
Four steps to make your dorm a place where people will want to hang out

Looking for a way to upgrade your plain dorm room to a place where everyone will want to hang out?
There are some personalized touches you can add to your dorm with easy, budget-friendly DIY projects.
Going from having your own room and personalized place to sharing all your space can be hard. You want your room to look nice and friendly but not feel cluttered. Southeastern student, Olivia Estes and her roommate came up with a few ideas.
HUTCHES AND SHELVES
Both Olivia and her roommate put a hutch on their desk to stack things like books and picture frames. Hutches come in many different sizes.
RAISING OR LOFTING YOUR BED
Lofting your bed opens up the dorm room a little more. You can even slip your desk, dresser, or both underneath the bed frame when it is lofted. Lofting your bed gives you enough room to put more furniture like a comfortable chair, which might be a nice thing to have after a long day of classes, practices and homework.
CORKBOARDS
Corkboards are inexpensive and one of the best things to have hanging in your dorm room. Instead of having several picture frames sitting out that are taking up way too much space, purchase a corkboard.
There are two different ways to hang your pictures on your corkboard. The first is to cover the corkboard with material and ribbon and then slip the pictures behind the ribbon to stay in place.
The other option could be to leave the corkboard plain and purchase some push pins. Then you can strategically layout your pictures to resemble the shape of the corkboard.
DIY HEADBOARD
Save money and make a DIY Headboard. It is simple and quick.
Take a cardboard box, cut it to lay flat, duct tape the flaps together to make a flat and strong board. Then purchase the color and pattern material of your choice. Super glue the material to the board and you have yourself a DIY Headboard. You can add ribbon and cotton to add a more personalized touch to your headboard.
The best thing about all of these DIYs is they take up some of the blank wall space that you are constantly trying to cover.
