A new season of the Walking Dead brings tragic deaths of beloved characters
November 1, 2016
The Walking Dead, airing exclusively on AMC, is a show depicting the lives of survivors in a post-apocalyptic world filled with zombies called walkers. The series boasts a handful of award winning actors such as Norman Reedus, Andrew Lincoln, Steven Yeun and the legendary Jeffrey Dean Morgan. The show is currently on its seventh successful season and it is off to a very emotional start.
Episode one of season seven of the walking dead has all of the group of survivors led by Rick Grimes, Andrew Lincoln, being held captive by a group of outlaws led by Negan, Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Rick’s group attempted to fight Negan’s clan of survivors at the end of season six but quickly learned that Negan’s group was much bigger than they thought.
Rick’s group had been causing Negan a lot of problems while allying with a group from the outpost called Hilltop. They made a deal with the survivors of Hilltop. Ricks group would get supplies and food in exchange for clearing out Negan’s outpost, which interfered with the Hilltop’s operations.
Negan tracked Rick and the others down and rounded them up and briefly showing him killing someone at the end of season six. The start of season seven showed exactly who Negan killed, Glenn Rhee, Steven Yeun and Abraham Ford, Michael Cudlitz, thus making him the biggest bad guy in the series for killing off two of the biggest actors in the show.
Negan killed Glenn and Abraham to make Rick break emotionally. This would cause him to be less of a leader to his group and break down their morale completely for what Rick did to his men. The deaths turned Rick into an emotional mess completely breaking him of his sanity.
While in the comics Negan only killed Glenn, the TV series shows Negan initially killing Abraham. Soon after Negan killed Abraham, Daryl, Norman Reedus, went up to Negan and punched him in the face, angering Negan thus making him decide to kill Glenn. Many viewers of the TV Show that have not read the comics are extremely mad at Daryl because they think Glenn’s death could have been averted had he not retaliated.
