Easy DIY kids costumes
October 27, 2016
Halloween is coming soon. Halloween costumes are an important part of this holiday. How can people make a unique costume to make this Halloween more interesting?
Southeastern holds the “Safe Trick or Treat” event every year and many children will come to participate.
Here are two easy homemade DIY kid’s costumes:
- Cut a hole for the head in the center of a red-checkered tablecloth (or 1.25 yards of 45-inch-wide red-checkered fabric) so that it can be worn like a poncho.
- Cut 1/2 skein off-white yarn into spaghetti-length pieces. With a hot-glue gun, glue them in swirls and bunches to a large, sturdy paper plate.
- Paint 8 small Styrofoam balls with brown acrylic paint to resemble meatballs. Let dry, then glue 4 or 5 balls to top of spaghetti. Mix brown and red acrylic paint to make a tomato-sauce color; drip that over meatballs and spaghetti. Smear a little on the side of a small pot.
- Glue the plate to the front of the tablecloth.
- Glue remaining meatballs to tablecloth where you like.
- Glue some strands of yarn to the pot “hat.” Tie under chin if needed to keep pot on head.
Another one is called the Lightning Bolt Costume. For this costume you will need: Oversize black shirt, Fabric glue, two 26″
sheets heavy cardstock, 1½ yd batting, 2 yd silver lame, 1 yd black felt, Black gloves. And then follow the steps below:
- Cut sleeves off shirt about 4″ from neck. Glue under raw edges.
- Make bolts: Cut out two large lightning-bolt shapes from two sheets of cardstock. Glue each one to batting, and trim to size.
- Wrap front of each bolt with silver lamé; secure to the back with glue. Attach black felt to back of each bolt with glue, and trim to size.
- Glue bolts to front and back of shirt, felt side down.
- Create three 8″ bolts in same way, but without batting.
- Glue one bolt to each glove.
- Make hat: Cut a sleeve about 8″ down from top. Gather top together and glue closed. Add last bolt to top of cap; secure with glue.
These are just a few ways to make your own kid’s costumes from www.parenting.com. Every year, children wear many different and interesting costumes to safe trick or treat. For them, Halloween allows them to get candy and wear costumes representing their favorite characters.
