Recently at the 68th Annual Emmy Awards, the Game of Thrones franchise made history by being honored with 12 awards bringing its total Emmy count to 38, which is the most any fictional series would ever have accumulated. Their main achievement is this year’s most Outstanding Drama series.
The creators of the show also took home an award for their writing in the episode, “Battle of the Bastards”. That episode also earned Miguel Sapochnik, the director of Game of Thrones, an Emmy for Outstanding Directing. The series was also awarded Creative Emmys for casting, costumes, editing, production design, makeup, prosthetics, sound mixing, special visual effects and stunt coordination.
Game of Thrones has been a series on HBO since April 17th of 2011, that has attracted record numbers of viewers and attained an incredibly broad and active international fan base. Notable characters of the show are Peter Dinklage, who plays Tyrion Lannister, and Emilia Clarke who stars as Daenerys Targaryen. They along with other well known actors are what make the series such a hit as well as the writers and the locations they shot the film.
The locations of filming for Game of Thrones was quintessential to portraying a Sci-Fi Fantasy feel. Locations such as Paint Hall Studios in Belfast, Northern Ireland and Sandy Brae in the Mourne Mountains, another region of Northern Ireland that gave the series that feel medieval history. Of course a castle would be a must have for a medieval setting so they even shot at the Doune Castle in Stirling, Scotland but later discovered shooting in Northern Ireland was best due to studio space.
