The Southeastern women’s basketball team has been picked to finish third in the Lone Star Conference North Division in the league’s preseason poll released on Thursday, Nov. 28.
The poll is voted on by the coach, sports information director and a media representative from each institution.
Southeastern earned 130 points in the voting, finishing 21 points behind second-place Central Oklahoma who had 151 points, including five first place votes.
SE will open the regular season on Nov. 15 when it travels to take on the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma at 6 p.m. in Chickasha and will return home to open the home portion of the schedule on Nov. 20 against St. Mary’s at 2 p.m. in Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
Northeastern State was the North Division favorite with 170 points and 17 first place votes.
Texas Woman’s rounded out the top four schools in the poll with 116 points.
The bottom four teams were Cameron, East Central, Texas A&M-Commerce and Southwestern Oklahoma State, in that order.
West Texas A&M was picked to win the South Division with 175 points and 15 first-place votes, followed by Tarleton State with 166 points and seven first place votes.
Angelo State was third in the South with 107 points and a first place vote, while Abilene Christian rounded out the top four teams.
UCO’s Ashley Beckley was named the North Division Preseason Player of the Year coming off an all-conference selection last season, while WTAMU’s Joni Unruh was tabbed to repeat as South Division Player of the Year.
