The Southeastern volleyball team has an overall record of 2-23 for the 2012-13 season. The Storm conference record is 1-9 followed by a 1-8 record on the neutral games.
Southeastern won against Northwestern Oklahoma State University on Sept. 22 in a Great American Conference game. The Savage Storm lost nine games against teams from the Great American Conference; Southern Nazarene University, East Central University, Arkansas Tech University, Oauchita Baptist, Southern Arkansas, Arkansas- Monticello, Southwestern Oklahoma State University and Harding University.
Southeastern volleyball team has recruited four freshmen for the 2012-13 season: Natasha Smith, Megan Kunkel, Jasmine Everage and Taylor Allison. The team has no seniors this year. Southeastern volleyball lost seven players following the 2011-12 season, including the All-Conference player Lunden Azuara.
“The team has been exposed to couple of changes since last year,” said head coach Jenn King.
King added that the team’s goal right now is to improve every day. “I think everyone on the team has more trust in each other when it comes to defense or offense than last year. The only issue that we are facing now is in execution, but we are looking forward to improving every day,” King said.
According to King, the volleyball players took initiative in teambuilding this year, planning a little vacation over the summer to get to know each other better.
“They planned it all themselves, and the fact that they already knew each other good when they started practicing made a big difference,” said King.
Marina Dias, a junior transfer student and player on the team, also commented on the closeness of the team.
“I have a great relationship with all my teammates,” Dias said. “They are very friendly, helpful and understanding. This helped me a lot to adapt faster at Southeastern.”
But, like King, Dias said the team has room to improve. “I feel like we could do a lot better. We are a young team that has a lot of talent but we still need to improve on different areas,” Dias said.
She also added that is important to keep positive and work hard toward their goals so the results will come sooner or later.
