DURANT – Southeastern women’s basketball team faced off against their rivals, the East Central Tigers, Thursday night in a packed Bloomer Sullivan Arena. In an exciting game between the two, Southeastern came out on top with a 66-46 win.
Never falling behind, Southeastern dominated over East Central throughout the entire game. With an almost perfect free-throw percentage of 92.3% (12-13), missing only one in the second quarter, and forcing 11 turnovers, Southeastern was putting in the effort on both sides of the court.
Kenzli Warden led the team in points with a total of 13 and Caitlin Kobiske following with 11. Both Holli Lindley and Ashton Hackler put up nine points and spoke about how the energy from the big crowd encouraged them when on the court.
“It’s always nice to hear a roar when the three goes in… it just lets you breathe a little bit,” Lindley said.
Southeastern coach Darin Grover also commented on the performance of the team saying that it was a “perfect execution from our team from top to bottom,” and made the decision to give the team the game ball, rather than one individual because of the all-around effort.
With an attendance of 1,189, the energy was electric as Southeastern (8-13, 6-11 GAC) brought home another win against their long-time rivals and gained a spot in the Great American Conference tournament. The team celebrated the win but will focus on the upcoming road-stretch over the next two weeks.
