“Science and Adventure in the Grand Canyon and Other Western Rivers”
An avid river runner for thirty five years, Dr. Tim Patton’s classes and research focus on aquatic ecosystems and lower vertebrates (fish, amphibians, and reptiles). In the summer of 2010 he had the opportunity to oar a small boat 280 miles through the Grand Canyon with a group of fellow scientists and “river rats.” In this presentation, Dr. Patton will provide an overview of that trip, as well as conservation issues in the Grand Canyon and other western rivers as they relate to his work.
“Out of South Africa: Art Education & Safari”
Winner of the 2010 Governor’s Arts Award, Dr. Gleny Beach will overview her recent travel to Johannesburg and Cape Town in collaboration with people and institutions involved in promoting art education in South Africa. Her presentation will also include a view of her safari to Kruger National Park.
