Theatre at Southeastern and The American Association of University Women present the annual Children’s Theatre production, “Seussical the Musical,” featuring music by Stephen Flaherty and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens.
“Seussical” incorporates multiple Dr. Seuss tales in order to tell the story of Horton the Elephant from the Jungle of Nool as he attempts to save the world of “Who”—a tiny planet on a speck of dust that is populated by “Whos.”
Horton places the “Whos” on a very soft clover, but realizes that things aren’t going to be so easy, as the citizens of the Jungle of Nool call him a fool for talking to a speck of dust.
Through all his troubles, Horton meets JoJo, a very bright young “Who,” and finds that “a person’s a person no matter how small.”
“Seussical” is directed by Josh Harris, with artistic guidance by Art, Communication and Theatre Chair Dell McLain. The music direction is by Director of Theatre Aaron Adair, choreography by Director of Dance Riley Coker and costume design by Head of Design Kathleen Hardgrove.
The cast features Boomer Lowrie of Smithville, as Horton the Elephant, Dustin Curry of London, Ark., as The Cat in the Hat, Tanner Risner of Durant as JoJo, and Sheridan Hill of Ardmore as Gertrude McFuzz.
Other cast members include Julia Castro, Brianne Cothran, Taylor Donaldson, Jordan Hammack, Heather Hartline, Domanick Hubbard, Essie Jefferson, Elena Lewis, Noel McDaniel, Brent Odell, Kylie Page, Clint Poling, Ben Sawatsky, Ashleigh Self and Jenny Wills.
“Seussical” will have multiple day performances April 4-7 for local area schoolchildren. Over 6,000 students will be in attendance throughout the week. The only public performance is April 7 at 7 p.m. in Montgomery Auditorium. Tickets are $2 and can only be purchased at the door.
