Stephen Paddock, 64, from Mesquite, Nevada is being identified as the lone gunman in a mass shooting in Las Vegas. The shooting was the worst in the history of the United State, leaving 58 dead and 489 wounded on Sunday Oct. 1, 2017.

The shooting was at the Route 91 Harvest country music festival. It began around 10 p.m. and lasted for ten minutes. Officers and SWAT breached Paddock’s door at 11:20 p.m. and found him with a fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Paddock brought weapons and ammunition in bags which he carried to his room. According to Sheriff Joseph Lombardo, Paddock carried 23 weapons and ammunition in more than ten bags but could not be specific.

Lombardo acknowledged at least three of the weapons had scopes on them. All firearms were semi-automatic but some were equipped with bump fire stocks to achieve a fully automatic firing rate.

Daily mail reported that a“ prostitute who was hired by murderer Stephen Paddock has spoken out about their ‘violent’ sex sessions and how he bragged about having ‘bad blood’. The woman, who spoke anonymously, said she would spend hours drinking and gambling in Sin City with Paddock, who she described as ‘paranoid’ and ‘obsessive’. If he hit a winning streak, he would take her back to his room for ‘really aggressive and violent sex’ including living out rape fantasies.”

Paddock broke the windows in his suite with a hammer and began firing rounds from the 32 floor. Paddock targeted a crowd at a Jason Aldean concert. According to Lombardo, 58 people were shot and 489 were wounded.

Casino security was the first to engage the gunman. Paddock targeted the lone staff member and shot well over 200 rounds through the hallway at security. The staff member was shot in the leg but did manage to help police locate the room and provided them with information to breech the room.

Police arrived on the 32 floor 12 minutes after shots were fired. Officials then evacuated the 32 floor while a second group of k9 officers and SWAT closed in a Paddocks room.

Officials noticed cameras set up on a food service cart and decided to wait to breech until all officials were in position. Police breeched Paddock’s room and found him dead via gunshot wound.

A search warrant on Paddock’s vehicle was issued and enforced. Police found Ammonium Nitrate, ten 1 pound containers of Tannerite, two 20 pound containers of Tannerite, and 1600 rounds.

Lombardo said multiple guns were jammed but Paddock had plenty of fire power to continue the fight. Police speculate Paddock planned to escape but when he engaged the staff member Paddock felt closed in and decided to take his own life.

Currently police do not think there was another shooter but did not rule out that Paddock may have had help acquiring the weapons and bomb making material. The investigation is ongoing and Paddock’s motive is not clear.
