The Oklahoma Shakespearean Festival Brings Theatre to Life for Texoma Children

The Oklahoma Shakespearean Festival is proud to partner with Kiwainis Club and Chahta Foundation to present Children’s Theatre Workshop’s “ Disney’s The Lion King” and Young Actor’s Studio’s “Seussical The Musical.” “The Lion King” will be performed on June 30 at 7pm, July 1 at 2pm and 7pm, and July 2 at 2pm in Montgomery Auditorium. “Seussical the Musical” will be performed on July 8 at 7pm and July 9 at 2pm in Montgomery Auditorium.

Every summer, the Oklahoma Shakespearean Festival hosts a Children’s Theatre Workshop and a Young Actor’s Studio, a teen theatre workshop for ages 13 to 21. This four-week program meets for two hours every weekday. During this time, students are given opportunities to act for the Director, dance for the Choreographer, and sing for the Music Director. This gives them an introduction into how much work goes into creating a theatre production.

Allyson Thomas, the Young Actor’s Studio Music Director and Children’s Theatre Alumna stated, “Children’s Theatre opened my eyes to the world of the arts! I found that I loved to sing, and it is a huge influence on why I became a Music Education Major. I believe that children’s and teen theatre are important to the community because they allow children to express themselves just like I was able to as a child.”

“The Lion King” follows the story of Simba, a lion prince of the Pridelands. After the untimely and tragic death of his father, he runs from his home and finds himself making two goofy, but helpful friends named Timon and Pumbaa. Simba must return to Pride Rock and defend it from his evil Uncle Scar before it is too late.

“Suessical the Musical” is a compilation of Dr. Suess’ most famous stories. The musical includes tales from “Cat in the Hat” “Horton Hears a Who,” and “Green Eggs and Ham.”

“The Lion King” will be performed on June 30 at 7pm, July 1 at 2pm and 7pm, and July 2 at 2pm in Montgomery Auditorium. “Seussical the Musical” will be performed on July 8 at 7pm and July 9 at 2pm in Montgomery Auditorium. General admission is $8. For tickets, please visit oklahomashakes.com or call the Visual and Performing Arts Center Box Office at 580.745.2696.
