Awards season: the time to roll out the red carpet and usher in the looks of the new year. Who will rock the red carpet in the latest styles and who will, well; resemble a couch from your grandmother’s house like a certain Kim Kardashian.
Some might not see the importance in following the latest trends or watching award shows but even in Durant, it is good to be up to date on the latest fashion and pop culture. Although the latest trends won’ t be available immediately, one could still see what the “new black” is, so to say.
E! News covered this year’s red carpet fashion from the first event; The Golden Globes, held on Jan. 11.
There were several trends that were noticeable throughout the gallery from the Golden Globes this year; some were to be adored and some might just make your eyes bleed ever so slightly.
Retro Hair Waves
Many women such as Heidi Klum and Allison Williams rocked this amazing hair-do that resembles the finger wave hairstyle from the 1920’s. I think that this style is killer because it’s classy but also fun at the same time. Besides, who doesn’t love pretty much everything about the 20’s? The flapper style is magnificent.
Sexy “Cut Out” Dresses
Now I know that this style is praised by most stylists and fashion gurus but I, personally, just can’t really get into it. Don’t get me wrong, I think that showing off a little bit of skin is beautiful but a line has to be drawn. In year’s past I have seen celebrities strut down the aisle in some seriously skimpy outfits. Why not just walk down the red carpet naked? Oh yes, because showing 100 percent skin is illegal and “trashy” but only showing 95 percent isn’t. My bad.
Metallic Frocks
The Golden Globes were filled with metallic floor length gowns this year and I am A-Ok with that. I think that I speak for a lot of women when I say bling will always catch my eye. Sparkly dresses seem to have a certain “wow” factor that other dresses don’t. It’s like I’m staring at a giant shimmering diamond and I can’t look away.
Sleek Buns
Ladies, let’s get real. There’s nothing better than throwing your hair up into a bun and calling it good, am I right? As a frequent wearer of the bun, I love that celebrities on the red carpet are wearing the style. There are so many types of buns that you could wear a different style every day for a while; the messy bun, sleek bun, sock bun, etc. I think that this style really highlights facial features and puts together a more playful look.
Belted Dresses
I think that this is my least favorite of the trending styles of the red carpet this year. I think that wearing a belt can be cute if worn with the right dress but I think that a sash is more fitting for a dress. A belt can accentuate the hips and/or the bust but I also think that it disrupts the natural flow that a gown is supposed to have.
Ruched Dresses
Several celebrities took to the red carpet with ruched dresses this year and I loved every one of them. If you didn’t know, ruching adds a sexy, cinched effect to gowns with classic silhouettes. The place on the body where the ruching occurs is accentuated; most ruches are on the hip of a gown.
Most of us are not lucky enough (or rich enough) to go to events that require the use of formal gowns on a regular basis but worry not! A lot of styles such as hair or accessories that are seen on the red carpet are achievable in day-to-day life. If you visit websites such as E! Online, there are lots of how-tos for achieving your own “red carpet look.”
I believe that this year’s fashion season has gotten off to a good start and luckily, the season has just begun so the fashionistas of the world better prepare and keep a look out for all of the up and coming looks that celebrities will be debuting.
