The Holidays are encroaching upon us and for some it is not a reason to celebrate but instead a reason to worry.
As a full time student with two part time jobs I can honestly say that balancing work and school is hard.
This task can seem even more unbearable when one also has a child to care for. Money and time can become tough to come by.
This makes the holidays a very difficult time for these students not only to find enough extra money for gifts, especially if they are barely getting by, but also to find time to buy them.
Southeastern has many non-traditional students. So imagine yourself, an SE student, attending your normal full time school schedule 9am to 10 am then having to attend your job from 11am to 8 pm.
Then you return home to balance your schoolwork with the care of your 5-year-old child until 12am.
This scenario doesn’t leave the student with much time fore their schoolwork let alone to search for presents.
Our campus has decided that they are willing to help these traditional students.
Student publications is spearheading this issue starting with the KSSU radio station providing a Toys for Tots donation box here on campus for those that wish to help out.
This program not only could be beneficial to those hard working mothers and fathers we can find walking among us on campus.
According to Journalism Instructor/ Media Studies & Student Publications Advisor Tascha Bond, Toys for Tots Distributes between 1,200 and 1,300 toys every year to kids all throughout Bryan County.
All you need to do to help your fellow students and other families with too low incomes to provide for their children this year is to drop a new unopened toy into the box.
You never know, that could be the only toy that a child receives this holiday.
To request a gift one must simply go to the Durant area chamber of commerce and sign up.
