It is Friday night, homework is done, no party going on and you just want to relax at home; what do you do? Netflix binge, or am I the only one?
Let’s face the facts. Cable is expensive and may not be necessary for college students. If you have it that’s great. But unless you get a good package, there is hardly ever anything on.
Now Wi-Fi, this is something every student uses and really needs. Yes you can use it for homework but for entertainment purposes, the internet is a great place to be.
Netflix starts out at $7.99 a month for the basic plan. On this plan you can have up to 5 different profiles and watch on two different screens simultaneously.
If you split $8.00 between five people, it is only $1.60 each. Netflix will only charge one card for the account. So if it must be split, then the person in charge of the account can take up a collection for the money. I mean, it is only $7.99 for a whole month and even for a college student that is cheap.
The profiles are a fairly new feature that Netflix has added. This allows each person to have a more personalized movie and TV show selection and if you have to stop a movie and return to it later, Netflix will save your spot and put it at the top of the page.
Netflix keeps a pretty good and up-to-date selection of movies and shows. You might have to wait a few weeks after the newest season has stopped airing on TV to see it on Netflix. But look at it this way, you can loaf on the couch or in bed the whole weekend, if you need that long, and watch the whole season at one time. You don’t have to wait a week to see the next episode. You have it all at your fingertips.
For the movies, you have to wait a bit longer for Netflix to have the newest “blockbuster”. Netflix does not always have the movie you want to watch, but I am sure they have something you are in the mood for.
My brother and I live together and use our mothers account for Netflix. Even though we live in the same house, we don’t see each other every day. So we like to have a movie night every now and then. He asks what I’m in the mood for and we just pick a genre and search through until something catches our eye.
There have been times where we just can’t find anything to watch so we play this game. Where you pick the genre you’re in the mood for and just scroll down, not looking at the movies you pass. Once you are a good ways down very casually search the page for anything that catches your eye. Don’t read the synopsis. It may take a bit for something to pop out at you, but once you see something, just click and enjoy.
You may not like the movie you picked but you can always pick another one, just make sure you give it a chance first. My brother and I did this and enjoyed a movie we probably never would have watched otherwise. “The Man With One Red Shoe” is what we chose, just because it popped out to us as odd. It ended up being a great movie, check it out.
Online streaming is the new era of entertainment. Not only is there Netflix, but you also have Hulu.
I have tried Hulu and I did not enjoy the commercials, but their TV shows were more up-to-date.
Taking these into consideration, you can’t forget about YouTube. Many have fallen victim to YouTube. You know where you go on there searching for a particular video, watch it then you watch the related videos. Somehow, hours later you realize you are watching a video of a cat riding a vacuum. Totally odd because you started out watching a video on how to make a good paper airplane. Now although you lost hours on YouTube, you can’t help but admit that you were very entertained.
You just can’t find that kind of entertainment on cable or dish. Get with the times and give in to the new era of entertainment.
