After a busy month on the road the Southeastern rodeo team will be sending a team member on to the College National Finals Rodeo. In April the rodeo team traveled to Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kan. and Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell.
The last rodeo of the season was in Goodwell at Oklahoma Panhandle State University April 25-27.
At Goodwell the rodeo team had a good showing. The women’s team left in fourth with 165 points. The men’s team left in 10th place with 50 points.
The women’s team had multiple members place. In Barrel Racing, Katelyn McLeod took second place with a time of 35.79. Reanna Hays left in seventh in Breakaway Roping with a time of 6.4 seconds.
On the men’s team, Dillon Holder had a sixth/seventh split in Tie Down, Roping with a time of 21.6 seconds.
As of April 29, the women’s team is in sixth with 788 points and the men’s team is in ninth place in the Central Plains Region standings with 940 points.
In the standings by event, Holder is in second place in Tie Down Roping with 455 points. Holder will move of to the College National Finals Rodeo in Casper, Wyo. June 9-15. The top three people in each event, top two teams and men’s and women’s all-around move on to the CNFR. Rhett Nelson is in a 15th/16th split in Team Roping, Header position with 140 points.
Rodeo coach Bryel Mulligan said, “Our standout for the weekend was Katelyn McLeod winning third in the long round and second in the average for Barrel Racing.”
In Barrel Racing, Flynn is in ninth place with 230 points, Hays is in 10th with 222 points and McLeod is in 11th with 200 points. Hays finished in 12th place in Breakaway Roping with 166.5 points and Anderson is in 13th with 160 points.
At Fort Hays April 19-21, the men’s team left in 10th place with 80 points. The only member of the rodeo team to place was Team Roping, Header position Cooper Ratliff, who was in fourth place with a time of 6.8 seconds.
Mulligan said, “The conditions were a huge factor for us and we had some tough luck with the ground conditions and the stock. We did have Cooper Ratliff win the long round in the Team Roping, but did not have any luck in the short round.”
After Fort Hays, the men were in 10th place in the Central Plains Regional standings with 890 points.
The women’s team was in sixth place with 623.5 points.
On the men’s team, Holder was in third place in Tie Down Roping with 405 points. Rhett Nelson was in a 13/14th split in Team Roping, Header position with 140 points. In Team Roping, Heeler position Rhyder Nelson was in 13th with 140 points.
In Barrel Racing three members of the women’s team were in the standings. Ari-Anna Flynn was in ninth with 230 points, Hays was in 10th with 222 points and Austee Anderson was in 15th with 140 points. In Breakaway Roping, Anderson was in 11th place with 160 points.
Now that the rodeo season has wound down Mulligan said we are excited to have one athlete going to the CNFR this year. We had a strong finish to the year and will use the momentum going into the fall season.
