The Southeastern baseball team is counting down the days until the new season. The team will face several changes this year, including a lot of new players and the continuing upgrade of the baseball field.
The team’s only returning players this season are in the pitcher position; all the other starting positions had no returning players.
“It took a couple of weeks of switching everyone around in order to find everyone’s best place in the team,” said head coach Mike Metheny.
The Southeastern baseball field has also seen changes recently, and the process of modernizing the field began over the summer. “I think there have been more changes this summer than the past 50 years,” said Metheny.
The field has received around 300 loads of dirt, and the playing surface was leveled from one end to the other. A major change was that the field’s turf has been replaced.
“We were practicing at the Durant City Complex this fall because of the rehabilitation of the field,” said Metheny.
The team had three scrimmages this fall in order to prepare for the upcoming season, which will begin Feb. 5 when SE will take on Northwood University in Dallas, Texas.
