Nick Growall celebrating his decision to take fewer classes in the summer to give himself a little break after his hard work in the previous semester.
Everyone dreads classes in general. Getting up early, studying, writing papers and submitting projects are the worst things about school.
Summer is normally a time for freedom. This is the time where textbooks are put away and spending lazy days on the lake is the only thing on a student’s agenda for the next two months at least.
Most of the time, students take summer classes to get a few more credits in so their loads are not quite so heavy in the fall and spring semesters. Classes during regular semesters are longer and have way more assignments.
Using the summer semester is an easy way to get a hard class out of the way and focus on another in the fall and spring. Students can also take an easier class so they can focus more on harder classes in the longer semesters.
Students can still enjoy their summers by taking online classes. These classes allow the students to do their work and have fun while still in school.
The students just have to remember they have homework due at the end of the day. The students have all day to complete assignments depending on when instructors have set the due dates.
Because of the short time span, some assignments do run together. Every assignment needs to be completed in a timely manner in order to have enough time to finish the following assignments.
The summer classes can only last a maximum of eight weeks because that is how long the summer semester lasts. The school has a little sympathy for students willing to take classes during the summer.
Most of the classes start the first week of June and end the last week of July.
This leaves about three weeks between the time the spring semester ends to the beginning of summer classes.
For real overachievers, there are opportunities to take a solid one-week class called an interim class. These classes are offered from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a week before actual summer classes begin.
Usually, interim classes happen the week after finals week of the previous semester.
This means not only a full day of being in a classroom but also a full night of homework. Luckily, the classes are only one week.
I feel that if students make it though one of these classes, they can make it though any other class while on a regular semester routine.
Although I have never taken one myself, I have a feeling these classes are painful, but it is a good way to a class out of the way very fast.
These classes are good for students who can take a week off from everything, including work. This is the reason I have not been involved in a class like this.
Summer classes are an excellent way to get a few more credits and possibly finish college earlier.
