Theatre at Southeastern and the SE Department of Music present the 80’s pop musical “Xanadu” Thursday-Saturday, Feb. 23-25 at 7:30 p.m. in Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s Historic Montgomery Auditorium. This Tony nominated musical comedy is based on the 1980 film of the same name starring Olivia Newton John and Gene Kelley.
“Xanadu” follows the journey of a magical and beautiful Greek muse, Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California in 1980 on a quest to inspire a struggling artist, Sonny. “She helps him achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time – the first ROLLER DISCO…hey, it’s 1980!” said director Dell McLain. The plot thickens when Kira falls into forbidden love with a mortal, her jealous sisters take advantage and chaos abounds.
“This hilarious, roller skating, musical adventure is about following your dreams despite the limitations others set for you,” said McLain. The show’s original hit score is composed by pop-rock legends Jeff Lynne and John Farrar.”
The cast of “Xanadu” features senior Julia Castro as Clio/Kira, Boomer Lowrie as Sonny, Dustin Curry as Danny, Rebecca Sparks as Melpomene and Minda Rocha as Calliope. Other cast members include Kevin Anastasio, Jessica Black, Brianne Cothran, Taylor Donaldson, Nick Growall, Sheridan Hill, Domanick Hubbard, Noel McDaniel, Apryl Mock, Jonathan O’Brien, Aaron Rains, Tanner Risner, Ashleigh Self and Jennifer Wills.
“It’s hilarity on wheels for anyone who has ever wanted to feel inspired, with endless fun that will keep you in stitches, while the original, legendary chart-topping tunes lift you out of your seat,” McLain continued.
