A new tradition at Southeastern Oklahoma State University has been born.
Mark Webb, president of the Southeastern Alumni Association, is starting what he calls the “5 Saturdays Campaign.” At every home game at Southeastern there will be exciting tailgating events, said Webb.
The first of the “5 Saturdays” events took place on Saturday, Sept. 10 when the Storm took on the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos. The events were held at what will now be known as “Tailgate Alley.” Tailgate Alley is located at Second Avenue and University Boulevard.
The next event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 3 p.m. in Tailgate Alley. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be served to those attending the events, and live music will be available also.
Plans for the events include interaction with Southeastern players and coaches. The Sparks Dance Team and Spirit of Southeastern Marching Band will also be participating in the festivities.
The tailgating events are designed to be fun for fans, but there will also be some rules to follow.
University Boulevard will be barricaded between North Second and North Third avenues on all game days. There are designated areas for tailgating on campus. Tailgating will be allowed on the grassy area at the corner of North Second Avenue and University Boulevard. Tailgating will also take place in the new parking lot at the corner of North First Avenue and University Boulevard.
Grills are permitted, though there is a burn-ban in effect for Bryan County. When using grills be cautious and careful.
Tailgating participants are expected to clean up their areas and dispose of trash in available trashcans.
Students should also remember that students are not allowed to drink on campus.
According to the Southeastern University Alcohol Policy, it is illegal for anyone to consume or possess alcohol in any public or private area of campus without prior university approval.
Southeastern alumni are allowed to consume and possess alcohol on campus, but students are not. Organizations or groups violating alcohol/substance policies or laws may be subject to sanctions by the university.
Space is limited and will be available on a first come first serve basis. To ensure your spot show up early and be prepared to have some fun.
