The Red Hot Chili Peppers just released their 10th studio album “I’m With You” on Aug. 29. It has been five years since the Chili Peppers have released a studio album.
The last album the Chili Peppers released, “Stadium Arcadium,” received some criticism for changing the band’s sound and the band was accused of becoming too pop. After “Stadium Arcadium” the band took a few years off from the music scene but now the Red Hot Chili Peppers are back.
The band still has the three original members: Flea, Anthony Kiedis and Chad Smith. The band has struggled to keep a guitar player, but their newest member Josh Klinghoffer has some serious talent.
This album has a different sound than any of the bands previous releases. With that being said, bands change and get older and as a result their music does as well. Even though it is different from the rest, this is an overall good album.
The first song worth reviewing is “Factory of Faith.” I am a sucker for a good beat, and this song delivers just that. You cannot help from wanting to dance when listening to this song. Flea’s bass lines on this track are amazing. His talent is heard throughout the album.
“Brendan’s Death Song” is another song on the album that shines out among the rest. The band lost a friend when writing for this album. They wrote this song to pay tribute to him. The lyrics are poetic and the music is hard hitting. One of my favorite lines in the song is, “The night’s are long, but the years are short when you’re alive.”
“I’m With You” is not my favorite Red Hot Chili Peppers album, but it isn’t the worst. Change is unavoidable and necessary in everything we do as humans. As a band it is healthy to change up your sound so that you aren’t putting out the same album over and over. The Chili Peppers are obviously very talented guys and have been a band for 20 years. They know how to make hits and know what sells.
This is definitely an album worth checking out if you are a fan of rock music.
